After a tedious bus journey from Hanoi it was as if Mother Nature had snapped her fingers the moment we arrived in Bai Chay. Looming gray clouds parted giving way to dazzling rays of winter sunshine that started to slip through just as we stepped onto one of Bhaya’s traditional junk styled cruise boats.
We immediately secured an outdoor table as blue skies became the order of the day. Christmas lunch was truly a dining experience, feasting on a banquet of fresh seafood as our craft gently powered into the midst of Halong Bay’s sparkling turquoise waters and majestic limestone peaks.
A glorious day soaking up the superb natural beauty was topped off with a gin & tonic whilst being bathed in the colour of a magnificent sunset. The day’s activities didn’t end there though as a sumptuous 6 course dinner followed in the company of new friends.
Looking out from my cabin window and gazing into the night across the still dark waters I couldn’t help but summise that if you were looking for something special to celebrate Christmas then this surely must be on the list.
