Beijing has developed into such a cosmopolitan city over the past 12 years, so much so it is barely recognizable.
One of the latest developments I am really enjoying is The Village in Sanlitun. So often these types of developments remain half filled or are full of useless shops that I would never go near but The Village south has a cinema (currently playing an Australia movie festival) as well as a range of restaurants giving an excellent selection of dining options. And the shops seem to fit the surroundings or perhaps I should say they seem to be appropriate for the intended target market.
The architecture here is a funky representation of Beijing’s old hutongs. Large multi-coloured cube like buildings are randomly scattered across a whole city block resulting in a very visually appealing and functional asymmetrical layout.
All in all quite a nice place to hang out.
