Day 3 – Guilin to Butterfly Valley (82 klms)
An easy ride this morning out of Guilin, we make our way through some wonderful little villages and classic rural China countryside under chilly but glorious blue skies and sunshine. The karst scenery ended not far out of Guilin and for a short time as we cycled past a few brickworks I felt as though I could have been back in Northern China – dry, brown, industrial. Fortunately, this didn’t last.
The string of villages and fields of market produce soon came to an end as we headed off the sealed road through the forest and up a reasonably hefty hill. Surrounded by wonderful scenery, I had a fantastic feeling of remoteness in near perfect conditions. The day was balanced out with a ride up the highway late in the afternoon to our overnight rest stop, which by the way I was incredibly glad to see.
All-in-all an amazing day.
